Replace directory/listings toggles with icons and include a map toggle too - is this possible

Hi,

as part of simplifying my site I am using icons where possible (rather than buttons and text links unless necessary). 

Is it possible to replace the toggle buttons with icons (those that toggle between list and grid view (see attached image). Also, is there any way to include a map icon toggle to these so the user can switch to a map view of the filtered list which display the map (or even map search page). The idea is to keep my pages as uncluttered as possible.
