Landing Pages - separate theme

I'm trying to mass-setup 25,000 landing pages (will import the data) which will all be in one category.

I've been reading the docs about customizing the detail page by creating a separate theme. But I want to apply the theme to the detail pages of that one category only.

Is there a way to specify a customized theme to a single category only? Or is there a better way to go about this?

BTW - I'll also be adding separate background images (full screen) for the most important pages. I'll be using a Joomla template which will allow for a responsive, full-width container. That style will be applied to the one category for these landing pages.
