Click to search field listings across 2 categories

Hi Guys,

Been searching through info,

Can you click to search fields that bring in results across a couple of sub categories under 1 main cat?

Main Cat
- Sub Cat (Here)

- Sub Cat (Here)

Have a field set up that is in all sub cats, some of the listings have common ground.

In the advanced options of the custom field i have the output as follows:

tag/{fieldname}/{optionvalue}/?cat={catid}

This works great as it calls in from the sub category that the listing is within, is it possible we change the code above to search the top level Main Cat or even all listings in a directory?
