Custom fields not available for any new listings after setting up pricing plan

Hi, I just created my first pricing plan.  I understand any exisiting listings will not show media or custom fields (per the documentation), however when I try to add a brand new test listing both as admin or as a test new registered user, the custom fields are not showing to allow me to create a listing containing info for these custom fields.  Have I missed something simple?
