We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of JReviews 2.4.8.3. The upgrade is available via remote update if you have installed a previous version of 2.4 and it is also available for download in the client area. You need a valid upgrades package. We would like to remind everyone that you are only allowed to use the JReviews version you've purchased for your license or for which you have valid upgrades. Using a version of JReviews on your site that was released after your upgrades expired is not allowed and is a violation of our license terms.

We would also like to remind everyone that, as we previously announced, support for Joomla 1.5 will stop in June. After June you may no longer be able to install JReviews in Joomla 1.5 when we release a new update and we will no longer look into issues that are specific to Joomla 1.5.

What are the most important changes in this update?

This update brings over 30 bug fixes, lots of improvements and some new features. SEO is very important to the success of any site so we spent some time adding more SEO related features. There's also a very important performance improvement for all listing related queries.

What are the new SEO features?

* We added a brand new Category SEO Manager in the JReviews admin. Here you can quickly see and modify the Joomla category page title, meta description and keywords and you can also use the page title and meta description to override the page heading and page description of category pages. When you have a lot of categories and a lot of menus and you have to edit each one of them to optimize your titles and meta tags this is an amazing tool to manage everything in one place. Not only that, but you can use tag replacements for different category levels making the job of generating valuable titles and descriptions even easier.

* We associated the Jooma setting for the site name to JReviews pages so now you can use the site name in the page titles, before or after the title as configured in Joomla.

* We added a setting to enable or disable a canonical tag in 'view all reviews pages' for listings if you decide that you want all the page rank from these pages to instead go to the detail page. You can find the setting in configuration, reviews tab.

* New Custom Mode for the Reviews List page menu allows you to create custom review pages that aggregate reviews based on answers to custom fields. You can also add a description to these pages via the menu parameters.

* It is now possible to dynamically modify listing titles in list pages and detail page heading in the Listing Types SEO Manager. The same setting that is used for the page title can also now be used to override the listing titles http://screencast.com/t/zWOLczbiA10

Other new features

* Number of decimals setting for the output of decimal custom fields.

* 'Min. Date' and 'Max Date' advanced settings for 'Date' custom field.

Did I read correctly that this version is faster?

Yes you did! All of the listing queries, including category queries that checked for the state of a listing (published or not), were using a conditional with the current server time in it. This meant that on each page load the queries had to be run all over again because it wouldn't be possible to serve them from the MySQL query cache as the time condition made the query different on each run. This may not be inmediately obvious on small sites or sites with little traffic, but it should be on sites with a lot of traffic where most pages can now be served from the query cache (as it relates to JReviews).
