I have a review site for local businesses in a small country where people actually know the owners and managers of many businesses that they might want to review. It therefore becomes awkward for people to then leave an honest review. This would not be a problem if I didn't care about the quality of the reviews on the site. In that case people need not sign in and they could mask their identity with usernames. They could even leave fake emails so they would be untraceable. However it is important to my marketing strategy that people can see that the reviews are authentic and left by people that they can trust (via people with profiles that can be contacted etc.) In this case having a checkbox that a logged in user can check to make any review anonymous would be very helpful.
