need some clarification before I start

I've read the tutorial and set up a few plans. I'm just a little confused about some things:

I just want 3 plans: 1 free and 2 paid. When someone wants to add a new Listing, they can choose the free, or one of the paid plans.

If they decide later that they want to upgrade, they can upgrade to one of the 2 paid plans.

Now in this scenario, do I need 3 "New Listing" plans and 2 "Upgrade" plans?

2 thing: making an unlimited "Free" plan.

I made a free plan, but it asks me for duration. I'd rather make it fere forever, but that's not apparently an option. I made it for 6 months so hopefully people would at least keep it up to date every 6 months.

To someone who didn't know, that "6 months" under the plan name would mean that the plan would be deleted in 6 months unless they paid.

So, I'm confused about why there's a need or New vs Upgrade listings. I'm also confused as to why I can't make a free listing forever.

How do I create 1 free and 2 paid plans where they can go in and out of them at any time?
