This would offer the control to the listing owner as to what appears in the thumb. Especially useful for the 80% of users that don't know (can't be bothered!) how to resize images to the right dimensions. Just for similar functionality: Jomsocial allows this for adding a profile avatar. Behance.net let's you do this when you upload a 'cover image' for a project.
