mhartsmar Posted November 24, 2011 at 07:20 PM Share Posted November 24, 2011 at 07:20 PM Ok... So, I've been through all the hints, tips, tricks and documentation on this subject (I think). I am now officially going insane over this. So - I will try to explain this and I sincerely hope there's something I've missed and that it will be possible to sort it out. Here's the deal (the names have been changed to protect the innocent): In Jreviews I have a Directory named "Wine Recommendations". In Joomla I have a section named "Wines" and in there a category named "Red Wines" and in there are several sub-categories such as "France", "South Africa" etc. In JReviews corresponding categories are set up. First off I created "hidden dummy" Joomla menu items for section and categories in order to get nicely formed URLs. That worked nicely and gave me urls like "http://www.wine-me-dine-me.com/wines/red-wines/france/000-awesome-burgundy-wine-detail-page" Great. Now - if a user removes the item detail page they end up at a Joomla Category Blog instead of JReviews Listing, that I know. It is annoying, but I figured a 301 redirect could take care of that. But then I realize that only solves half of it... From an item detail page, clicking a category link in the breadcrumb at top doesn't point back to "http://www.wine-me-dine-me.com/wines/red-wines/" for instance but rather a messed up URL like; "http://www.wine-me-dine-me.com/component/jreviews/wine-recommendations/red-wines_c222/" Not what I expected. The same annoying thing is ofcourse true in all category links at the top of Listing pages. Thus a 301 redirect is useless since it's only any good if someone types the URL that I really want, and gets redirected to the above crappy URL. Once they're on the page, all category links will be with the crappy format and not the structured one I want. So, I tried another approach. Setting the dummy menu items in Joomla to be JReviews Listing Page-menu items instead gave me really nice and well formed section and category URLs in the display of Subcategories (at the top of a Listing page) and in the breadcrumb. Also, entering "http://www.wine-me-dine-me.com/wines/red-wines/france/" now got me to the JReviews Listing for France. Just as I wanted. BUT - this is the stupid part... The URL for an entry in the France-category doesn't point to "http://www.wine-me-dine-me.com/wines/red-wines/france/000-that-awesome-wine-again" but instead it points to "http://www.wine-me-dine-me.com/component/content/article/111-wines/red-wines/france/000-awesome-wine" You all know what I want to achieve here. Insanity isn't an option. HELP! Using some SEF addon for Joomla is not an option (and apparently not likely to solve my problem any easier). I try to keep this install as clean as ever possible. It's on the latest version of both Joomla and JReviews. Link to comment
