No tooltip in geomap module

I've got a Geomap module placed at the top of a page where I have listings.  The listing category items has no custom fields-I would like the map to show a tooltip with the picture and name of the listing items.

 

However, the map shows the icons for the listing items, and if I place my cursor over the item I see the name of the item that shows up when you hover over it with the mouse--if I click the marker, however, I don't get the geomap tooltip with picture / name.

 

I think I had this problem before, and the answer was that I had to add my custom fields into the module settings, so that the tooltip would show up and show when I clicked the marker.  However, in this case the listing items have no custom fields as I would just like to have the title and picture show. 

 

I haven't tried it but was going to add a 'dummy' custom field to the category, and then include it in the module settings (and in the thtml file if needed). thanks
