Enter a specific number of characters in a field

How can I set the maximum number of characters for a text field? Yes, I can set something under "Maximum Characters", but the input is not stopped when filling in. The setting only makes the content in the display cut off at the end.

I am looking for something where I enter e.g. 65 characters in a field and if each attempt exceeds 65 characters it doesn't let me continue writing.
