DanielH Posted November 17, 2013 at 06:11 AM Share Posted November 17, 2013 at 06:11 AM "Top Categories Module" as stated in the thread title, one would think this would be doable using the hits column of the categories table. Query for say the top 5 or 10 most popular categories according to the number of hits. I would think something like this could / should work for core joomla with or without jReviews. Features: Choice of vertical or horizontal display. Responsive Ability to set the number of categories to show in module. How long before refreshing / updating the output. Min number of hits before displayed. i.e. 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 1000, 1500, 2000, 5000, 10000 etc. or a numeric field for the entry. Possibly a means to set all categories or a group of categories to query from as sites with large category base might hurt performance. Maybe this is why its not in the core of joomla already. -OR- the most popular categories from a certain directory. Maybe others would have feature requests to add. Trending traffic comes in spurts, the easier it is for users to locate those trending categories may keep visitors around a site longer. Then they can finalize the search using the JR search module. Most competing web directories have this function / feature for visitors. Then of course we could spent even more time tracking analytics and create a popular categories menu module and edit the links every day. Cheers! Daniel Link to comment
