is Duration the time of the plan or the time per price?

I set Subscription Plan price to $49 and duration of 1 month cause that to me means "$49/month".  Or does that mean It's $49 for one month and then at the end of that month, you expire and must choose new plan?  A subscription would mean they can keep it forever right?

 

If so, can we increase the price or do they get that price forever?  How can we limit the length of a subscription?
